New Moon in Capricorn 2021

New Moon in Capricorn January 12/13th 9pm pst. at 23º13’ conjunct Pluto at 24º

Turn and face the strange—Ch-ch-changes!
— Capricorn, David Bowie

About this time last year, we Airheads were recording our first podcast and the subject was Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Remember that? Many were calling it the Great Reset of 2020 and astrologers knew there would be a great shake up in our world—and they were not wrong. Sydney even talked about how the last time these two powerful planets came together back in 1518, there was a strange plague that caused people to dance to their deaths in what is now France. We definitely got the plague part again, a deadly virus and one that exposes hate. The activation of Pluto—ruler of death, transformation and plagues conjunct Saturn—ruler of time, the status quo, and foundations, has knocked us on our butts, to get us ready for the new age that we are entering. Everything is changing and although it feels hard and discouraging, it has to come to create a better world for everyone.

I mention the conjunction from last year because this new moon is at the same position in the sky at 23º and for some of us, on the same day January 12. In numerology this adds up to the number 5, and we all know by now that that’s the number of change. I also mentioned in my last post that 2021 is a 5 year, are we seeing a theme here yet? 🤔 Take a moment to think about all that transpired last year. What has Pluto transformed for you? What foundations (Saturn) that you thought were stable, came crashing down? Are you more willing to see the truth that Pluto exposed about how certain systems were not as reliable as you were lead to believe or that there are two different sets of rules that gain you special privileges? Like one for the rich who can get a vaccine because of their fame, or the understanding now that blue lives only matter when they are oppressing BIPOC ones?

The truth hurts, change is hard, blah blah blah, but what are you going to do now that you know? This is your opportunity to grow, to be brave and the moon (emotions) and sun (you!) with Pluto (transformation) will guide to becoming a better human. Otherwise the new age is just going to drop kick you into the light and it will suck.

My mind goes to the events of last Wednesday in my country, and reminds me of a horrific movie made ages ago called Birth of a Nation which lead to the creation of the KKK and told a narrative that Black men were to be feared and thus murdered. It’s a disgusting movie that I only bring up now because the real story—this “Rebirth of a Nation” that we are seeing play out in the States, is one where Officer Eugene Goodman (Universe, don’t you think that name is too on the nose? 🤔) a black police officer is a hero protecting the chambers of the Senate.

The true hero’s are being revealed while the villains that continue this narrative of white supremacy are being exposed. Pluto is just a few degrees away from its natal positioning during our nations birth in 1776, and our country is in heavy labor to become what it’s always claimed to be—a beacon for freedom and justice for all, not just a few. Our Sagittarius rising country with our Sun and Jupiter in Cancer compels us to do just that, to be a home for everyone- a light in the darkness. We just need to let go of the old Capricorn ways and focus on our Aquarius future (this country does have an Aquarius moon after all!)

I’ve gotten completely off track but I said, what I said!

For us mere mortals this new moon is part of a series of 6 (3 last year, 3 this year) New Moons at 23º, telling us to be open to change because that’s all that there is ahead. In Capricorn season, ruler of career and status, it’s a chance to plan for a new career or connection. Some important questions to ask yourself are : How do you want to move forward, and who do you want coming along with you? If old habits and relationships need to fall away, know that new healthier ones will come in. Fear of the unknown can also push us to be fearless. Embrace the change and pursue what actually makes you happy, be an explorer, and create a space for yourself where the possibilities of joy are endless.
